What are ocarina tabs and who makes them?

An ocarina tab is just a visual representation of an ocarina that has one hole filled or colored in. It allows you to visualize what notes you should be playing instead of worrying about how to read music.

Ocarina tabs are commonly used by both professional and beginning players as a way to quickly pick up a song and go! They are made by players, themselves.

Why should I use an ocarina tab?

Well, that is a tricky question. There are quite a few elitist views on why reading sheet music will always be superior to reading tab, but the fact is that they reduce the learning curve and get you playing music very quickly. Using the traditional musical staff will indeed allow you to play pretty much any song. Ocarina tabs, however, are made especially for a type and shape of the ocarina which makes it incredibly easy to pick up your favorite tune and go.

How do I read ocarina tabs?

It’s quite simple. An ocarina tab is a topdown view of an ocarina, and as such, it only requires you to follow along step by step. You’ll need to use your judgement on the length of rests and notes. Breathing times are also something that you will need to decide on your own. In truth, as long as you have the appropriate type of instrument in front of you playing a song with an ocarina tab is pretty intuitive. The trick is finding the song you want.
